New Delhi:

Sushil Kumar, a two-time Indian Olympic medalist, will be seen operating from inside the Tokyo Games, where he has been jailed on charges of kidnapping and murder.

A television has been set up in the joint area of Tihar Jail in New Delhi following a request from jail authorities by Kumar’s lawyer.

“We, along with others, have allowed Social to watch television in the common area of our ward,” Sandeep Goel, director general of Delhi Jails, told reporters.

“He asked a TV channel through his lawyer to stay up to date on wrestling matches and other events.”

Kumar, 38, was arrested in May after a week-long standoff over the murder of wrestler Sagar Dhankad at a stadium in the capital.

Kumar, the only Indian to win two individual Olympic medals, has called for an impartial and police investigation.

He won freestyle wrestling silver at the 2012 London Games after winning a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics four years ago.

He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and was awarded India’s highest honor for athletes in 2009.

Last month, a Delhi court rejected Kumar’s request for special food and extra items in jail.

Kumar is locked in a separate cell in Tihar due to security concerns.
