PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb said on Wednesday that the party’s vice president Maryam Nawaz had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Aurangzeb said in a tweet that Maryam went into self-sufficiency after a positive check and appealed to the people to pray for the PML-N leader and others affected by the virus.

Later, the PML-N vice-president responded to a tweet saying that he was being treated at home and had symptoms such as “fever, cough and flu”.

Leading Pakistani politicians, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, have all tested positive and recovered from the virus.

The development came as Pakistan’s daily COVID-19 case count crossed 4,000 for the first time in two months on Wednesday morning after 4,119 fresh infections were reported at the National Command and Operations Center.

The last time the country recorded more than 4,000 cases in a single day was on May 22.

During the last 24 hours, 52,291 corona virus tests were conducted across the country, of which 4,119 tested positive, according to the latest NCOC data.

Meanwhile, another 24 people have lost their lives to the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 23,133.
