Washington: The United States on Tuesday condemned the bombings that rocked Kabul, saying they may have been carried out by Taliban insurgents.
A car bomb blast rocked the Afghan capital, the far-flung Green Zone, home to several embassies, including the US embassy.
State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters: “We are not yet in a position to officially attribute it, but of course it bears all the traces of Taliban attacks that we have seen in recent weeks. “
“It is important for the Taliban to recognize that they cannot achieve their goals by seizing power through violence,” he added.
Clashes have intensified since early May, with insurgents taking advantage of the final stages of the withdrawal of US-led foreign forces almost 20 years later.
