CLUJ-NAPOCA:

Germany’s Andrea Petkovic won her first singles title in more than six years, defeating Egypt’s Maya Sharif 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday in the opening winner’s Open in Cluj-Napoca, Rome.

This is the seventh career trophy for Petkovic, 33, since February 2015 in Antwerp, Belgium.

Petkovic changed five of 10 break chances and never faced a break point in a 61-minute match against a 25-minute non-safe Sharif who became the first Egyptian woman to reach the WTA singles final. He had not lost a single set all week.
