A spokesman for the tax agency said on Wednesday that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had no connection or access to people’s banking transactions at any level.

The spokesman’s statement came in response to emails and messages circulating on social media on the FBR’s apparent access to banking transactions.

The spokesman wrote on Twitter: “The FBR does not have a fingerprint verification mechanism available.

The FBR’s tax profile data contains only offline bank account numbers that are not linked to banks or financial institutions.

The spokesperson added, “Therefore, there is absolutely no risk of access to transaction banking at any level. The FBR has termed the messages spread in emails and social media as fake and baseless.”
