ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday telephoned UN Secretary General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres and the two leaders discussed the situation in Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Qureshi emphasized that Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role in supporting efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister appreciated the contribution of the United Nations in addressing the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

He noted that it is important for the international community to remain engaged with Afghanistan, including in addressing the socio-economic and humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.

UNSG Guterres thanked Pakistan for its role in facilitating the work of UN agencies and the humanitarian mission in Afghanistan. He sought Pakistan’s continued support in this regard.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi assured Guterres that he would extend all possible assistance to the United Nations in fulfilling its mandate.

He highlighted the facilitation provided by Pakistan to the international community in evacuation and relocation efforts. Shah Mehmood Qureshi confirmed that Pakistan would extend all possible assistance to the United Nations.
