A cargo ship carrying buses for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project has arrived in Pakistan, bringing public transport in Karachi closer to a much-needed boost.
Port officials told Geo News that the cargo ship Feng Shen arrived in Pakistani waters on Sunday with 40 buses.
He disclosed that the second consignment of 40 buses would reach Pakistan from China in the first week of October.
The arrival of the first consignment was recently announced by Federal Minister for Planning and Development and Special Measures Asad Omar.
Earlier this month, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail also announced that the BRT project would be inaugurated in Karachi within a month.
The project was started in 2016 by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was to complete the project within a year. However, for various reasons, the project remained incomplete.
