LONDON, United Kingdom: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday said former Afghan leaders were responsible for the current situation there. Geo.tv. Reported on Monday.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said this during a working dinner organized by the Pakistan High Commission in London, UK on Sunday evening. He is in London on a three-day official visit after concluding his visit to New York, where he attended the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During his visit, Qureshi will hold meetings with the Chairman of the British Foreign Affairs Committee, Members of the British Parliament and his counterpart Elizabeth Truss at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

“Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai – who held office from 2001 to 2014 – accused Pakistan of meddling in his country’s affairs,” Qureshi said.

The Foreign Minister added that the war in the country and the decision of the former leaders had caused the people of Afghanistan to suffer for a long time.

“The people of Afghanistan are tired of war and only want peace and stability in their country,” he said.

Qureshi also turned his guns on Western countries for the situation in Afghanistan and said that they were trying to make Pakistan a scapegoat.

“[As opposed to the narrative of Western countries] Pakistan is not a safe haven for terrorists. The Western media should come here and see the situation for themselves, ”Qureshi said.

He also spoke about the interim Taliban government in Afghanistan and said that both Pakistan and the United Kingdom were on the same page when it came to demanding a comprehensive government in the country.

The Foreign Secretary said that the United Kingdom supports the idea of ​​a comprehensive government in Afghanistan and that is what Pakistan wants. “Although the two countries may have different approaches to dealing with the situation, the goal is the same,” he said. Geo.tv.

Qureshi also spoke of the possibility of a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and urged Britain to contact the Taliban government to resolve the issue.

He warned that if the world isolated Afghanistan, there would be a refugee problem and people would turn to Europe for help.

“Pakistan is ready to be at the center of relief efforts in Afghanistan and will do everything possible to help the people there,” Qureshi said.
