KARACHI: Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman’s wife Mahmooda Khalil-ur-Rehman passed away at the age of 95 in Karachi.

His funeral prayers will be offered in Karachi today after Friday prayers.

She was the mother of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Editor-in-Chief of Jang / Geo and the grandmother of Mir Ibrahim Rehman, CEO of Geo Television Network.

Considering the situation of COVID-19, the family of the deceased has requested the people to pray for it from home.

Ms. Rehman is survived by a son and four daughters, 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Hearing the sad news, various leaders offered condolences to the Rehman family.

On his official Twitter handle, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “My prayers.” [and] Condolences to the Mir family on the demise of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman’s mother and Mir Ibrahim’s grandmother.

President Dr. Arif Ali wrote on Twitter: “I would like to offer my condolences on the death of Begum Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman.”

“She was a dignified woman who, like her husband, had a special place in her heart for me and my family,” she said.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Home Affairs Sheikh Rashid and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communications Dr Shahbaz Gul also expressed condolences.

PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb also prayed for the soul of the deceased.

Aurangzeb wrote on Twitter: “Saddened by the death of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman, wife of Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman, founder of Jang Geo Group and mother of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Editor-in-Chief.”

We extend our heartfelt condolences to all the members of the family including Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman and Mir Ibrahim. May Allah Almighty grant them a high position in Paradise and grant their family patience and beauty. Amen! ” He added.

Among other leaders, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Home Affairs Mirza Shehzad Akbar and former Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan also expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.
