Karachi administration has declared a public holiday in Mega City today. [Friday] Due to the weather emergency in the Arabian Sea due to the tropical storm Shaheen.

Releasing the notification on Thursday, Commissioner Karachi said that all government offices and businesses in Karachi would remain closed today.

The notification issued by Commissioner Karachi said that all offices, educational institutions and businesses would remain closed except for essential services, businesses and government offices engaged in rain relief activities.

“A public holiday has been declared in Karachi Division on Friday, October 1, 2021 in view of recent weather consultations regarding the expected tropical saloon Shaheen by the Pakistan Meteorological Department and Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Sindh.”

Besides, Karachi University has also canceled all the examinations held today. According to Controller Examinations Dr Zafar, the new date of examinations will be announced later, as the Sindh government had today announced the closure of all educational institutions across the province.

According to Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah, educational institutions will remain closed today due to inclement weather and heavy rains.

The Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy rains from Friday to Saturday and possibly isolated torrential downpours under heavy pressure in the Arabian Sea which is likely to turn into a tropical storm today.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains with thundershowers in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Thaparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar and Shaheed Benazirabad. Extreme winds with heavy winds can turn into heavy rains. Nowshero Feroze, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Ghotki districts from September 30 to October 2 (Thursday to Saturday).

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has assigned the duties of overseeing relief and rescue operations to the ministers.
