ISLAMABAD: In a major victory, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has become the fastest batsman to score 7,000 runs in the T20 format and has managed to rewrite record books.

Babar Azam broke the record of West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle and crossed the figure of 7000 runs in T20 cricket.

Babar played a pivotal role in his 187th innings against South Punjab during the Central Punjab National T20 Cup. When he came to bat on Sunday, he needed just four runs to reach that milestone.

Gail crossed the 7,000-run mark in the 192nd innings.

Chris Gayle crossed the 7,000-run mark in his 192nd innings.

Babar was three innings short of Chris Gayle’s record earlier this year. Since then, he has taken just 22 innings to add another 1,000 runs to his total T20 runs.

Azam scored 2,000 T20I runs in 52 innings.

Out of his 7,000 T20 runs, 2,204 have been made in T20s. In April this year, Babar Azam surpassed Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest 2,000 runs in T20 Internationals, beating the Indian captain by a margin of four innings.

Azam had scored 2,000 T20 runs in just 52 innings, while Kohli, who had earlier set the record for the fastest 2,000 T20 runs, managed to do so in just 56 innings.

He is the 11th cricketer to score 2,000 runs in T20.

Last week, Babar broke the sixth T20 century of his career, setting a record for the most T20 centuries by a Pakistani batsman. With 64 scores from 186 innings of 50 or more, Babar Azam has the best 50s / innings ratio in T20 cricket among all the top batsmen in the world.
