Benzema is still dreaming of Ballon d’Or.

Real Madrid’s on-form striker Karim Benzema has been dreaming of winning the Ballon d’Or since he was a child, he told the Spanish daily AS in an interview published on Saturday.

Benzema was selected in the long list of 30 for the 2021 Ballon d’Or on Friday, after which France defeated Belgium 3-2 to win the final of the Nations League.

“I’ve been dreaming of winning it since I was a kid, we all do, all professional athletes,” said Benzema.

“So I’m trying my best and will continue to do so, because I hope to win it and fulfill my childhood dream.”

With nine goals in eight games for Madrid this season, Benzema has flourished since the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo two years ago.

“The important thing is that people enjoy my football and I feel happy and proud.

“These days the strikers are playing very well in their 30s and scoring a lot of goals,” said Benzema.

“Modern football allows it,” he said.

“It’s always a pleasure to be on the list of the top 30 players, and I’ll keep it in a corner of my mind as a goal in big matches.”

France faced Spain in the final of the Nations League on Sunday.

“I’m sure it will be a big final. Spain is a young team, but a very talented team. Most of all I hope it’s a great game,” he said.
