ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that no one in the country will be allowed to take the law into their own hands and only peaceful protests will be allowed.

Talking to media in Islamabad, he warned, “Whether it is the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) or the Tehreek-e-Lubaik Pakistan (TLP), none of them should take the law into their own hands.”

The multi-party opposition coalition PDM has announced a nationwide protest campaign against the government amid rising inflation.

“The law will take its course, because if the law is violated, it is the responsibility of the state to maintain law and order,” Rashid said.

He emphasized that there was currently no restriction on political activity and that the media was “free” in the country.

“Our politicians are getting special coverage in the mainstream media and such coverage is not possible anywhere else in the world. Pakistani media is playing an important role in educating the people.

He said that the present government was working on several options to control inflation at the behest of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was seriously considering the issue as he wanted to resolve it as soon as possible.

He said that the problem of inflation was linked to the changing international economic situation. No one in the government wants prices to go up in the country.

The Minister said that along with national affairs, the government would have to formulate policies keeping in view the emerging international and regional situation.

Rashid said the current government would complete its term because it had “succeeded so far” in running the affairs of state.

He further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was fortunate to have such an incompetent and ineffective opposition.

The Home Minister said that an additional 1,000 personnel were being added to the Islamabad Police to ensure foolproof security. He added that the government would be able to better control the crime rate with the launch of a new air patrol unit in the capital.
