SIALKOT: The opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Saturday staged a protest in Sialkot as part of its campaign against rising inflation, unemployment and other economic issues.

Addressing the protesters, PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said that we need transparent elections as this is the only solution to inflation.

Endorsing his views, Jamiat Ahle Hadith leader Sajid Mir said: “The government is not representing the people, it is working for the mafia.”

He said that even the opponents of Nawaz Sharif are remembering him (with love).

The opposition alliance also staged protests in Multan and Jhang today.

PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb said that the protest would continue.

“Demonstrations will be held tomorrow in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Sahiwal and Mian Channu,” he said. He added that PDM would also protest against inflation in Nawabshah, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal and Mithi.

It may be recalled that PDM started its 15-day nationwide protest from Rawalpindi on Wednesday against the continuous rise in prices of petroleum products and food items.

Earlier, opposition coalition spokesman Hafiz Hamdullah had said that committees would be formed at the provincial level for the protests.

He said that committees would be formed in Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Islamabad to determine the places of protest in consultation with the districts.

The duration of the protests is two weeks, which could be extended over time, Hamdullah said.

“The PDM leadership and members of parliament will participate in as many protests as possible,” the spokesman added.
