Pakistan says India’s state machinery has failed to protect Muslims.

Foreign Office Office Building

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday strongly condemned the vandalism of several mosques, houses and shops by Muslim mobs in the Indian city of Tripura.

The Foreign Office statement came in the wake of a recent spate of anti-Muslim violence in India in which at least six mosques and a dozen Muslims belonging to the BJP-led state of Tripura have been attacked in the past few days. More than a dozen houses and shops were set on fire.

The attacks were allegedly carried out by the Hindutva group RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal during retaliatory protests in Bangladesh across the state.

The FO said the state machinery had allegedly failed not only to protect Muslims and their property, but also to respond to frustrating calls for help from local Muslim organizations.

“It is reprehensible that the Hindutva-led BJP-RSS alliance has a track record of massacres of Muslims and systematic human rights violations from Gujarat in 2002 to New Delhi in 2020. There is very little space for minorities in India and their way of life, “he added.

The FO said it was equally reprehensible that Muslims in Assam were being targeted and brutally evicted from their decades-old homes.

In this regard, the Foreign Office called on the international community to do its part to stem the rising tide of Islamophobia and attacks on minorities in India, especially Muslims, and to ensure their safety, security and well-being and their worship. Ensure site safety. Heritage sites.
