London:

Tottenham on Tuesday appointed former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte as their new manager following the sacking of Nono Esprito Santo after four months in power.

The Spurs moved quickly to hire the Italian, who on Monday fired former wolf boss Nono and signed a contract until the “summer of 2023”, which was in charge of only 17 games.

Conte, who has also coached Juventus and Italy, won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2016/17 and the FA Cup the following year before being sacked by Stamford Bridge.

The 52-year-old has been out of action since leaving Inter at the end of last season, just weeks after winning the Serie A title – his fourth victory in the Italian league as manager.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Antonio Conte as our head coach on contract until the summer of 2023, with options for extension,” Spurs said in a statement.

“Antonio has won the Serie A title, including a hat-trick from Juventus, the Premier League and the Scudetos, and also managed Italy, which led Azure to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.”

Conte was in talks with the Spurs in June to succeed Jose Mourinho, but they broke up after differences between the two parties over key issues.

However, football director Fabio Paratici is now in a position at Tottenham and, after working with him at Juventus, he has a strong relationship with Conte.

“I am very happy to be back in coaching and to do what I want to do in a Premier League club that wants to be the main character again,” Conte said.

“Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.

“I can’t wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the spirit, mindset and determination that has always distinguished me as a player and as a coach.”

The Italian said he was happy to have the opportunity to take over Tottenham.

“We didn’t unite last summer because the end of my relationship with Inter was still very recent and I was emotionally involved with the end of the season, so I felt it was the right time to return to coaching. No, “he said. Said.

“But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of (Chairman) Daniel Levy to hand over this job to me has already been marked. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction.”

Tottenham are top of the Premier League table with three wins at the start of the season, but the team are currently ninth in the table after losing five of their last seven league games.

The Italians, who are expected to receive funding in January to strengthen the squad, are due to train on Tuesday.

Conte’s first home game will be against Dutch side Vatican Arnhem in the Europa Conference League on Thursday before the Spurs play Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Paratici said Conte’s record “speaks for itself”, citing his vast experience and the trophy-winning race.

“I know the qualities that Antonio can bring to us, working with him at Juventus, and looking forward to seeing his work with our group of talented players,” he said.

But Conte has a hard time making Spurs the leading contender again.

The club, which has not won silver since 2008, recently reached the Champions League final in 2019 under former boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is now in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.

But since then he has lost his way and has been out of the Champions League for two consecutive seasons.

Conte will be tasked with ensuring that Tottenham play a more adventurous football than strategically offered by the conservative Nono.

He will also have to perform better than England captain Hurricane, who has been struggling to find top form since Levy’s attempt to engineer him to move to Manchester City.
