Karachi:

Pakistani fans were thrilled to win the right to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, a title won by Men in Green in 2017 and they will defend their homeland.

Pakistan defeated India in the final to win the 50-over tournament under the leadership of wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed. They went to the tournament as the eighth ranked team in ODIs and lost the opener to India, but then they continued their winning streak and surprised everyone.

The last time Pakistan hosted an ICC mega event was in 1996, when they joined as co-hosts of India and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka had won the 50 overs World Cup against Australia at the famous Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Rameez Raja is happy that the ICC has shown “faith” in the country.

Immediately after the announcement, Rameez said, “By allocating a major global event to Pakistan, the ICC has shown full confidence and confidence in our management, and operational capabilities and expertise.” He added that the 2025 event would be “an honor for millions of domestic fans” who will get to see their “favorite international players up close.”

ICC Chairperson Greg Barclay was pleased that the game’s governing body had for the first time successfully implemented a new method of “competitive bidding”.

The hosts were selected through a competitive bidding process overseen by a board subcommittee headed by Martin Snyden as well as Soro Ganguly and Ricky Scratt. The ICC Board accepted the recommendations of the committee which thoroughly reviewed each bid with the ICC management.
