Firstly the shape of the virus is a genetic material surrounded by an envelope of protein spikes. In Latin “corona” means crown. This virus is categorized into two types: MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). Coronaviruses are zoonotic, which means they are transmitted between animals and humans.

Coronavirus affects animals and humans. Firstly it was recorded in 1965.  Secondly, it appeared in 2002 and then in 2012. Human Coronavirus was discovered in 2003. Recently its attack was in December 2019. This pandemic outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, China. Later on this virus whole world rapidly. According to WHO this type of Covid 19 is SARS as it affects both upper and lower respiratory tract. Since its introduction in Asia last year, the virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica. Cases are rising daily in Asia, Africa in the United States, and in Europe.

The symptoms of Coronavirus include fever, cough, headache and shortness of breath, fatigue and sore throat. It can appear in people of infants, old age, and people having cardiac issues, diabetic patients or anyone having the respiratory disease. These symptoms can last from days to a week.

The incubation period of COVID-19 is thought to be between one and 14 days. It is contagious before symptoms appear which is why so many people get infected. The infected person may be asymptomatic meaning they do not show any symptoms despite having the virus in their systems. Most people got infected by virus severely and they need hospitalization. Doctors also suggest self-quarantine to those who have mild symptoms.

During this pandemic, country situations went to severe crises.   Covid 19 is much more than a health problem. It causes destruction at social, economical level, a political level not at the country level but worldwide. The whole world faces a high death rate and a risky condition. Everywhere there was lockdown. Worldwide, shops, theatres, restaurants and schools, universities are closed.

In Pakistan, the situations also went critical. As Covid 19 transmit from human to human and a large population was affected by it. During the early days of the virus, when there was a high risk of infected people all over the country government apply lockdown throughout the country.

Every day, people lose their jobs and their income, with no way of knowing when normalcy will return. The small island nations, which rely heavily on tourism, have empty hotels and uninhabited beaches. The International Labor Organization estimates that 25 million jobs could be lost.

Coronavirus cause destruction at huge level People all over the country and world of all ranks suffer from it. According to an estimate, 1.88M people died all over the world. The situation went to high risk where people were at self-quarantine. All educational institutes remain close. The mode of study changes to online. Markets were also close due to precautionary measure. Only hospitals and medical stores were open. Travelling, hotels, shopping malls remain close during these days. Any type of gathering: religious, political any other kind was strictly prohibited.

Preventions are very important to stop the spread of any disease. As Covid 19 is transmitted through large respiratory droplets and direct or indirect contact with the infected patient it is necessary to take care as much as a person can. Transmission of the disease can also occur by going to crowded places, close contact with people.

Prevention is better than cure. Till now there is no such vaccine to deal with coronavirus. It can only possible by taking precautionary measures given by WHO. Common recommendations for preventing the spread of infection include frequent hand washing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and cooking meat and eggs thoroughly.

Avoid contact with anyone who shows signs of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing. Avoid touching mouth and nose. Wear medical mask every time when going outside. The best way to prevent and delay the transmission of information is to better understand the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using alcohol regularly and without touching your face.

Coronavirus is still there. We should take is seriously and to take care of our health and our love ones. It is a deadly virus. We should deal with it with courage and wisely. Anyone who feels illness must isolate themselves and to take precautions by drinking warm water, having fruits which can boost immunity, sanitize hands regularly, and wear a mask even if they are at home. If the condition goes critical seek medical advice. May Allah help us to cope with this pandemic and bring normality in our lifestyle. Aameen
